The Maria Clara Service Project, annually curated by FAAPI’s youth ambassador, Miss Maria Clara. A title first bestowed in 1972 to Edah Ismael, Miss Maria Clara selects a local charity to be the recipient of additional fundraising efforts selected and led by the honoree because of its special meaning to her. The first recipient was “Hope for Hallie,” selected by Miss Maria Clara 2023 Elaine Ficarra.
The Center for Asian Health at the Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine is spearheading the Multiethnic Observational Study of Asian American Communities
Thanks in part to contributions from friends like the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, and AARP, FAAPI continues to provide support to our Filipino community members, particularly older adults vulnerable to diminishing capacity and social interaction, as well as diminishing health.
In the same breath, with a sharp focus on our older community members, our annual Mother’s Day celebration recognizes the Mother of the Year, honoring a local mother for her devotion to family, career, and community. The first Mother of the Year was Mrs. Florence Jaucian, wife to our Founder Agripino, and mother to the first female President of our organization and 1967 Mother of the Year honoree, Florence Burns.
